WT20: Kolkata skies clear after morning rain ahead of Pakistan-India match
KOLKATA: Heavy rain hit Kolkata ahead of the much anticipated Pakistan-India match in the ICC World Twenty20 championship here at Eden Gardens today, Indian media reported.
At one point media reports suggested, the clash may be marred by rain. However as the day progressed the clouds dissipated and sun came out shining. The Indian MET department has forecast intermittent rain and thunder for Saturday but with five hours to go before the toss, chances for the match to be rained out appear slim.
Pakistan and India facing off, is always viewed by fans as a treat and often one bigger than the final match of the series. Ahead of the fixture off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin termed the match a bigger contest than the traditional rivalry of the Ashes, Shaun Tait told Geo News' Faizan Lakhani that he views a clash between the two teams to be a tight match. Meanwhile, Pakistan coach Waqar Younis sees the rivalry as something the cricketers should be proud off.
The official International Cricket Council account on Twitter posted that precautionary measures are in place due to the rain forecast. Geo News' reported on ground in Kolkata also reports clear skies with a forecast of showers and thunder.
