Pakistan among 3 in hunt for WT20 semi-final berth
With India’s win against Bangladesh in the crucial Group 2 match in the Super-10 stage of the ICC World T20, the equation has become very interesting with three teams running in contention for 2nd spot in the final four.
New Zealand has already qualified for the semi-final with three wins in three games, leaving three teams India, Pakistan and Australia in hunt for the second spot in the final four from the group.
For Pakistan to win a place in the semi-final, first a win against Australia on Friday is a must, but it will not be enough for the Green Shirts. After beating Australia on Friday, Pakistan will also have to hope for Australia to win against India in Mohali on Sunday to confirm a place in the semi-final on net run rate.
Not only this, Pakistan will also have to pray that the match does not get washed-out or abandoned because one-point each on Sunday means that, despite Pakistan's win on Friday, India would go to the semi-final instead with five points.
If Pakistan fails to beat Australia, then the Green Shirts will be eliminated from the race and Sunday’s game between India and Australia’s match will become a virtual quarter final for both the teams.
In case of Australia's win against Pakistan on Friday, a wash-out in Sunday's Australia vs India game would sail Australia in to the semi-final of ICC World T20.
